Summary
When the new Premier, Jean Lesage was elected, he began to lead Quebec in a different direction. He didn't want Quebec to separate and infect wanted a better partnership with Canada. This caused reform and a modernization in Quebec that forever changed the Province, The secularization from the Catholic Church started it off, followed by large steps towards making the public education system better. Hydro Quebec, the Nationalization of hydroelectric power, was introduced, which was very efficient and new to Canada, but helpful as well. Lesage made independent pension plans, loans and medical insurance possible by getting special status that had never been in Quebec before. Soon after, with all of this beneficial advancements the capitol of Quebec, Montreal help the Expo '67 which gave Canada a very good reputation. The passing of the Official Languages Act in 1969, gaves English and French equal status in the government of Canada and made French an Official Language in Canada. Soon after the 1976 Summer Olympics were held in Montreal.
