Aboriginals have control over natural resources, education and justice
Summary
On April 1, 1999, the new territory of Nunavut was born. This made the controversial dream of the Northwest Territories' Inuit tribe a reality. It meant the Inuit gained self-rule and control over their own institutions. They elected their own leaders, without having political parties. The First Nations thus had control over their natural resources, education and justice system.
