On October 19, 2011 the Supreme Court of British Columbia handed down its decision upholding the constitutional validity of the Nisga’a Final Agreement.
Summary
The beginning and testing out of the Nisga'a Tribe's self government was originally challenged by many. nearly 2,000 square kilometres of land was officially recognized as Nisg̱a'a land. This land claim was the first formal treaty to be signed and passed through both the government of British Columbia and the Government of Canada. The tribe was given many resources and millions of dollars, and in the end the self governing of the tribe worked out very well, and still does to this day.
