Summary
Right now the world has the highest population it has ever had, as it exceeded 7 billion in March of this year. With people in developed countries living longer but having less children this puts them at a standstill, but because of the longer life expectancy there is an accumulation of older people and not as many children. In the developing countries however, they have large populations, consisting mostly of young people. Families have large families in order to have more people be able to work and support the family. With no form of contraceptives and abortion being expensive or unknown in third world countries, this causes them to expand quickly. The rule of seventy then determines the doubling rate for a country which is the period of time required for a population to double in size.
