Census = determines how many people live in a certain area, determines voting areas, age of population, gender
Canada has had a detailed census every 10 years and a less detailed every 5
Developed countrieshave much more accurate census counts than developing
Census' in developing countries are difficult
The rule of seventy finds out the doubling rate of a population eg. 70 divided by 1.5 (per cent growth per year) = 46.7 years
Crude birth rate = dividing number of births in one year by the population and then multiplying the result by 1000
Crude death rate is found the same way
Subtracting the deaths from the births gives the natural rate of increase
Population Example Question
if there are 10,000 births, 33,000,000 population, 150,000 deaths Birth Rate 10,000 divided by 33,000,000 = 3.03 3.03 times 1000 =3030
Death Rate 150,000 divided by 33,000,000 = .004545 .004545 times 1000 =4.545
Subtract deaths from births 4.545 minus 3030 =-3025.455 is the natural rate of increase
Summary
Every ten years a detailed census is sent out in Canada, a less detailed one ever five. These census' determine how many people live in a certain area, determines voting areas, age of population, gender etc. They determine the total population of the world roughly. The Rule of Seventy find out the doubling rate, or how long it will take a country to double in size. By taking to crude birth rate (found by dividing number of births in one year by the population and then multiplying the result by 1000) and crude death rate (found the same way) and subtracting them you find the natural rate of increase in a country.
