Summary
One of the major resources needed for humanity seems to be lacking. That is, fresh water. 1.2 billion people around the world suffer because of scarcity of safe, drinkable water and of these billion, the vast majority are living in developing nations. It has also been proposed that, that number will double by 2025. Although water is one of the most common resources on the planet only a fraction of the world's water is liquid freshwater, and it is increasingly the subject of conflict and strife as it becomes less available. Because of irrigation plans many sources of fresh water are drying up. Water is also one of the primary ways that disease and infection is spread and can be spread so widely. Infections such as e.coli, cholera are waterbourne diseases but not common in first world countries because of our available fresh water. HIV/AIDS has become a huge epidemic in the world and in Africa entirely.
