•Stewardship = careful management to be
sustainable
Summary
A huge environmental concern is the declining of forests. Because lumber and wood are a huge resource almost half the worlds forests have been cleared and very few natural forests remain. Tropical rain forests, which have a huge amount of biodiversity and because of their size absorb a lot of CO2, are in danger. They are an important habitat for migratory animals and sustain as much as 50 percent of the species on Earth. Today less than 5 percent of Earth's land is covered with these forests. Temperate and northern forests cover about 20% of the earth, costal rain forests, which is 14% of all of Canada's forests produces 40% of the marketable timber in the world. Stewardship has then been introduced to embody responsible planning and management of resources.
